Weekend Beer Review!
Good to know that the Gator enjoyed his maiden voyage to the Blind Tiger! I gotta take him to Spitzers Corner which I know he would like. Let's go Huskies (both Men & Women) and away we go!
1. St. Bernardus - Wit 5.5% abv - White Ale very carbonated, cloudy....this would be a very good summer beer. It says you can store this for 2-3 years. This one had a life at Jimmy of about 4 days. Glad that the abv is low as I have a couple of power houses coming.
2. Southern Tier Brewing Company - phin & matt's extraordinary ale - 5.6% abv - Excellent American Pale Ale. I have only had their big beers before and have found this a great change of pace. Again, quickly becoming my favorite brewer.
3. Troegs Hopback Amber Ale - 6.0% abv -very similar to phin & matts. I guess spring is the time for hops!
4. Sam Adams - Imperial Stout - I may be wrong but I am dividing stouts betwixt coffee style and chocolate style. Good beer ....still hate Boston!

NCAA Hockey!
Heading to second round action at the Arena at Harbor Yard tonight. Tactical errors committed during the Professional Bull Riding excursion are not likely to be repeated.
Update: Spent most of the time down there watching the Huskies go to their third Final Four. Go Huskies!

The Face of Congress....
From Powerline. How can this person be in a job other than that which requires the line; "Do you want fries with that?"
Brazilian President
Blames white people with blue eyes for the state of the economy.. I didn't know that dark skinned people with dark eyes ever have created a country with a sustainable economy. Maybe the Mexicans can go to Brazil. Or the Brazilians in the US go back to Brazil!
Nice!!!!
Stub - Hub Confirmation came through for the first Saturday game in the new Yankee Stadium history today. As far as I'm concerned when I walk in the place it is officially opened! (Man that is pretentious can I get a job at Treasury or as President?)

Little Green Footballs
Has jumped the shark, they are to creationism what Andrew Sullivan is to homosexuality. Used to be good topics on the blogs but they got very myopic. Bye!
Oversaw a headline
in the Wall Street Journal that said (paraphrasing) "White House hunting for ways to increase tax revenues" The picture I get is of Obama dressed in Elmer Fudd gear saying "Shhhh I'm hunting tax revenues........heheheheheh". Of course there is a teleprompter in the background.

Weekend Beer Review!
Man is my liver screaming after yesterday. Best to put it out of its misery!
1) Smuttynose Imperial Stout - A very hoppy stout, this is what I thought on first sip and confirmed by going to their site. Nice juxtaposition between the hops and malt!
2) Lefthand Brewing Co Milk Stout - Very good stout, smooth at 5.9% We beat the Brit's when it comes to Stout's!
3) Elysian Bifrost Winter Ale - Very hoppy, very tasty!
4) Nugget Nectar - Troegs Brewery Very hoppy, ah spring in all its glory!

Line of the day
Actually two
"I feel utterly powerless to do anything about the fellow in the Oval Office who combines infantile leftism and adolescent grandiosity in roughly equal measures."
"I am depressed because the president of the United States is a fool who will immiserate us, render us wards of the state and lose us our life and liberty to those who understand what they are about."

Westy!
Had a Rochefert 10 which I have always enjoyed! The Westy was similar although maybe a bit smoother. Good to try once, may do so again but I don't think it exceeds Rochefort by that much
Let the drinking commence!
I've walked, taken the contacts out and have thrown the cars keys into the neighbors yards in case I am tempted to go somewhere.
Starting off with the Ommegang Three Philosophers - 9.8% ABV - I've reviewed this before and I do really like it (hopefully that is what I said in my initial review). I thank Adam for his thoughtful comment, the reason I didn't go for the Abt 12 is that it said (on the label) I swear that it was a Dubbel. Oh well, I think I get now the broad mouth glass, where you can get the aroma as well as the taste at the same time. I also thank Alfred for his delightfully abrasive comment. Alfred is always welcome at Jimmy!
Have gone now to the St. Bernardous Tripel, I think I am starting to figure out the styles now.

Day of Beer
I screwed up
Had a chance to go to the legendary Lombardi's for Pizza last night but walked out when they told me they didn't serve by the slice. Will not make that mistake again.

Powerline
Does a great job eviscerating the AIG bonus controversy, here, here and here. The problem is the party in power is comprised of;
1) Hysterical Broads
2) Minorities
3) White guys who want to get laid by the hysterical broads.
4) White guys who wish they were a minority
And the remainder of the undesirables.

Weekend Beer Review!
The one that prefaces the epic for next week. The Westy has arrived! Next weekend is the weekend of Quad! I am assuming that is the Westy style as that is what I saw on ratebeer.com. Going to throw in a few other Quad's for good measure.....that said!
1) Lefthand Brewing Company - Imperial Stout - I think that stouts are my favorite style of brew. Problem is is that Guinness is the stout that most people know. Guinness sucks. This offering is about 9% ABV, very good. Too smooth!
2) Longtrail Brewing - Brewmaster Series - Coffee Stout - 8% ABV - A little bitter than the above. Good offering from the Peoples Republic of Vermont!

Connecticut's Catholic Issue
A lot of hub-bub here. If Catholics want to stop lawmakers (in any issue) just start chanting "Be-head those who insult Catholicism!" You will never hear from anyone again.

Elevator Etiquette
Memo to stupid f***ing purveyors of elevator etiquette. Yeah you know who you are. The stupid mother-f***ing idiots who stand at the doors on a crowded elevator and then feel that they have to hold the door (which causes them to block half the doorway so no one can get by). Here is a clue, get off the damn elevator and get the f***k out of the way! Next person who does this to me I am going to lay a Jack Tatum on them! Man that felt good!

Weekend Beer Review!
Starting a little late, but I have tomorrow off. Went on to Ebay, bought a bottle of Westvleteren 12 and a regulation glass. Should be an interesting post in a couple of weeks.
1) Sierra Nevada Early Spring Beer - Nice light beer (ABV 5.9%). I think the Gator has it right that the Sierra Nevada brand should be your normal drinking beer. Have yet to see the Torpedo though.
2) Southern Tier Brewing - Oak Aged Unearthly IPA. 11% ABV - Obviously big but very smooth. I like Southern Tier I might take a ride up there.
3) Stone Brewing - Ruination IPA - One of the good things about working in NYC is getting beers that you can't get in CT. 7.7% ABV - a bit more of a bite than the Southern Tier offering above. This has prompted a comparison with a Dogfish 90. Dogfish wins, much smoother!
4) Left Hand Brewing - Saw tooth Ale Another mild ale, thank god!

Beer Hopscotch Part 4
Beer Hopscotch Part 2
Up Avenue B to a delightful little beer garden called Zum Schneider where I had a very nice Hacker Pschorr Dark as recommended by the bar keep. The mass of weeds shown is the Avenue B community garden. Looks a little more to me like Obama's stock market.
Beer Hopscotch Part 1
Hat tip to MC for the title of this and several more posts.
Went to the E. Village last night. These photos document the walk up to the Bowery to E. Houston St. A famous movie landmark (actually really two) is thrown in for good measure. To quench my thirst I stopped at the Spring Lounge and had a Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout which was very refreshing.

Illustrated beer review!
Ahhh beer.....
1) Two Brothers Brewing Co. Heavy Handed - IPA 6.7% ABV - Very drinkable IPA, have been eyeing this at the Whole Foods Market on E. Houston for a while. Glad I got it. Similar to a Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA. The big stuff is next.
2) New England Brewery - Imperial Stout Trooper - This is a Russian Imperial Stout. Very smooth, not as sweet as a Brooklyn Chocolate Stout. A bit smokey as well. Not sure of the ABV. Boughtt this in NYC & have been looking for this for a while. Glad I found it.
3) Goose Island Brewing - Pere Jacques - 9% ABV. The story on the bottle was that they went to a bunch of breweries in Belgium but could not get into a Trappist one. When they finally found someone who would let them in a Trappist Brewery, they named this beer after him. Sounds like a good story! Very good beer.
4) Arcadia Brewing Company - Cereal Killer - Gotta like the name. Didn't realize that this was a barleywine. I moved it from a pint glass to a brandy snifter. I am turning in to a real beer geek!
