Uh oh...nothing good can come of this...
1) Beer Here - Dark Hops 8.5% - This might be the best of the Dark IPA's I've had, Floral nose then, coffe and chocolate. Very well balanced!
2) Full Sail IPA - 6.0% - I think these American IPA's are the way to go. Very tasty but with a little of the bite that you would want. Bet you couldn't get one at the White House!
3) Eel River - Extra Pale Ale - Organic, wanted to like it, border line drain pour.
4) Full Sail - Black Gold - 11.4% Bourbon Bareel Aged - Blah, Blah, Blah and yet....the bourbon is there in the nose with a huge finish of vanilla at the end. This beer is worth going to NYC for.

Birthday Weekend Beer Review!
Went on a growler filling bonanza today. I have already reviewed two of these (Southern Tier 2x IPA and New England Brewing Ghandi Bot. It is going to be a hoppy weekend!
1) Speakasy - Betrayal - 9.2% - American Red Ale - 32 oz Growler fill from Decicco's. Nice way to start the Hops explosion! Balanced and tasty. The sweetness really complements the Piny Hops! By the way this is number 490 reviewed!

Couple of NYC Pictures
Thought of MC when I saw the sign in red as that would be a saying he would appreciate. Kind of thought he might be going into the slogan writing field. Belgian Mondays work as well.

Christmas Beer Review!
Or I break into the cellar!
First one (nothing vertical here!)- Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. Bottled 10/21/08. Enjoyed in a brandy snifter. This is actually outrageously good. This has been in the cellar for a year (or so). The remaining ones may be there for a while.
By the way where is Adam!
1) Jolly Pumpkin - Noel de Calabaza Special Ale 9.0% ABV - Aged in Oak barrels. Belgian strong ale, very tart maybe a bit much for me. Might buy one to age a bit. Still glad to have tried as this is one one more on my step to 250 beers reviewed, and depending on what is at Deccico's tomorrow this milestone may occur before the end of 09!
Rain rain go away! Oh Well going to enjoy a Growler of Monk's Blood from Decicco's

In anticipation
Of MC's photography at last nite's Bluefish Baseball Blow out. MC is the official photographer of the event and is ofetn referred to as the Ansel Adams of drunken stupidity. Well maybe not often as this was the initial time the reference has been made!

Chappaquidick
Man can you imagine if a drunk frat boy W had been involved with the death of a woman? What would the press have done? Powerline as usual nails it:
Ted Kennedy has styled himself an opponent of wealth and privilege, but his career is a tribute to their power when wielded by a man of the left. The lesson of Chappaquiddick thus remains timely forty years on.
Update: Alfred as I should have thought beat me to this. I hope Red Sux nation is proud of this man. Surprise he wasn't throwing out the first pitch at Fenway today.

Have been rather quiet lately
Been busy at work, commuting, planning this year's baseball excursion. Can't find much in new beers to review (have I hit a beer wall?) That said, this Friday is going to be one of my last trips through the East Village for a while. Usual stops are dba, zum schneider and the East Village Tavern. The Beer menu at the East Village Tavern looks especially ominous. Oh well, the carnage has been mostly(?) quiet the last few weeks.

Weekend Beer Review!
Since I am home recuperating from last weekend's (literal) pratfalls I decided to revive a tradition that has kind of been lapsing. A shout out to MC for coming over to witness the carnage. By the way, MC texted me with a Michael Jackson joke a mere scant or so hours after Jacko's death. Just another sick individual! That said, here goes:
1) Left Hand Brewing - 2009 Imperial Oak Aged Stout - 10.2% ABV - Not a Goose Island Bourbon County Stout in its intensity but a very smooth in the middle coffee/chocolate stout. Had to get this in NYC as CT sucks for beer.
2) Legacy Brewing - Euphoria Ale 9.0 A% ABV - watered down Tripel save your money.

Sign that the Beer Apocalypse is upon us!
I've started aging.....actually I continue aging but I have bought some beer for cellaring purposes. So far have a Brooklyn Black Op's, a couple of 09 Bigfoots, an 08 Goose Island Bourbon County Stout and a Hair of the Dog - Adam. The goal is to keep these to the Holidays, which very easily could turn be Memorial Day.
As an aside I am pissed of at myself for missing the Swanny lighted beerfest this weekend. Had tickets to the Yankees which is a tactical error in and of itself. How to deal with a tactical error? Compound it! Will most certainly leave the Yankees early to go to d.b.a and other fun areas!

Beerus Interuptus!
Woke up yesterday and decided I wanted to go roam around the East Village. Kind of a sperm of the moment thing as Archie Bunker might say. Roaming was of course a natural thing to want to do when the weather forecast called for rain all day but the weather turned out very good. Of course with all that wandering a thirst was going to develop. A couple of places of note were visited. A Paddy something or other on 2nd around 27 or 28th. It bills itself as the worlds only all Guinness draft bar. Don't know if they are the worlds only but all they did have on draft was Guinness. Had the 250 Anniversary offering on tap which was very good, although I still maintain that Americans make better stouts.
The Waterfront Alehouse was a place that I had wanted to go for a while. Unfortunately it is not in my logical walking pattern during the week so a special trip needed to be made. Good place although I wish the bartender spent more time paying attention to the glasses of his patrons rather than washing the one's behind the bar. Had a paradoxically named Imperial Mild on Cask from the Chelsea brewing company. This was 11.5% and superb! Probably can't make that one a habit.
I noticed on the board behind the bar that the Waterfront offers absinthe cocktails. The absinthe is purportedly real but just looked way to strong for me. I texted MC that absinthe was available. We traded some messages the last from MC saying we should try the stuff. Not sure if that is one of his better ideas. Actually I am reasonably confident that it isn't!
Well hopefully I will get to the regular beer review soon.

NCAA Hockey!
Heading to second round action at the Arena at Harbor Yard tonight. Tactical errors committed during the Professional Bull Riding excursion are not likely to be repeated.
Update: Spent most of the time down there watching the Huskies go to their third Final Four. Go Huskies!

Superbowl Beer Review!!!!!!!!!
The aim today is to get higher than George Obama!
A photo is going to accompany this one, while I was roaming around this Friday's Pub Crawl I stopped at Whole Foods on E. Houston and picked up - Hair of the Dog - Adam! What a great name for a beer and a fellow drunk. It says it's an old world ale. To me it's a stout and is very high in alcohol content (10%). It is bottle conditioned which I think might increase the ABV. This is a well named very good beer!
Note this will be updated in (semi) real time like 24!
By the way is the label "Irish Drunks" repetitive?
Stone Brewing Co - Cali Belgique - 6.9% ABV - This bills itself as a Belgian influenced California IPA. I think I get it!
Insanely Bad Elf - Imperial Red Ale - Ridgeway Brewing - 11.2% ABV - Boy this is a subtle bomb! Can't believe it has more ABV than Adam!

Vodkapundit
entitles this post the Tom Clancy Drool Fest. I think an APB needs to be put out for MC if he sees it. And this via Instapundit should really put him over the edge.

Got drunk with MC
Which is always a pleasure. Liberated a bottle of 12 year Old Johnny Walker Black, which had been in my mother's cupboard for about a decade which means that I am drinking 22 year old scotch (I am a CPA, I can validate that number). Here is a new twist, instead of commenting about liquor and food pairings here is a liquor v. liquor pairing, Rogue Smoke Ale with a Johnny Walker Black chaser, nice!
