Phoenix was hot!

About 105 degrees last Monday (7/21). Naturally a 10 mile walk was in order. Here are some things from along the way.

Adam asked about Big Nosed Kate & Doc Holliday

The Following Beers

have been sampled this vacation. Sad thing is that the 24 Hour gas stations and supermarkets in AZ & CA had better selections than most of our liquor stores back here, in no particular order:
Stone Brewing, Stone IPA, Smoked Porter
Leftcoast Brewing, Hop Juice Double IPA
New Belgium New Belgium Trippel
Nimbus BeerEnglish Style Ale
Green Flash Brew
Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA Closest thing to a Dogfish I have had! Good Stout as well.
Wipeout IPA - Port Brewing

Also had on tap Bridgeport IPA Oregon!

I really mean this this time

Last beer review

Allagash Black - Allagash Brewing 7.5% ABV. Probably don't need this on this humid a day (especially when I plan on walking later). Another beer that puts Guiness to shame. Very good.

Book Recommendation

Am looking for a couple of paperbacks that I can take on vacation and read in the airport to kill time. Any ideas? Would love to hear from regular or irregular readers of Jimmy. Title, Author & Genre would be great.

UPDATE: Anyone who recommends The Audacity of Hope will be banned!

Friday Beer Review (Bonus!)

I had some time (and beer) so here goes.

My boys at Mo's had pointed out a new brew from a local brewer and had mentioned that the Vete Ol (Wheat Ale) was the better of the two offerings from Carlson Brewing. The boy's were right this is very good. I think you can only get this locally at Mo's. I actually contacted the brewmaster to let him know I liked his beer. He told me he was working on a Scotch Ale for Christmas.

Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Beer - This is a Scotch import as the title says aged in Oak barrels. Has a very Scotchy taste (as in the whiskey). I like it!

Pause...almost running out of beer for the day, have to go to Stop & Shop!

Back!

Whales Tale Pale Ale - Cisco Brewers Nantucket Light nice Summer Ale.

Blithering Idiot - From Weyerbacher Barleywine style Ale. Have to love the name. This is going to make tonight's walk to the Star interesting.

Blogging will be light due to vacation for about the next week and a half. Upon return expect copious photoblogging!

Something we are going to have to get behind

Get drunk and vote for McCain via NRO. I think Obama over the last week has made himself look like the idiot he is (oh no, Google may shut me down now talking bad about "He who must not be criticized"). Problem is McCain who is an absolute War hero..... for whatever reason won't come out and say, "This guy is a lightweight and a danger, who has never had a real job and is singularly the most unqualified man to run for President. The only reason he is in this position is because if he farts on air, Keith Olbermann, Katie Couric & Chris Matthews will have to change their panties".

Guess I'm not going to be getting any speech writing gigs soon.

I love summer!

Sunday Beer Review

Will able to get one last one in before vacation:

Carlson Craft Brewery (Branford, CT)- Barsten Ol - English Style Ale. One of boys at Mo's told me that this was new and he thought the Wheat offering was better. I thought this was a very good summer beer mild and it takes the edge off. Will have to try the Wheat. If multiple comparisons need to be made then so be it! Since this is new, give it a shot...support local brewers!

Victor HopDevil Ale - Very tasty...no microbrew after taste.

Lagunitas Maximus - A very serviceable & good IPA!

It's too bad

that this place wasn't open...loved the name

Started my trek to the Brooklyn Bridge

and stopped at the Blind Tiger Alehouse for some fortification. It is on Bleecker street and in one hell of a place. The beer menu is impressive.
