Weekend Beer Review!

And I am going on a Bender! No Not Norm

1) Olde Hickory - Irish Walker - 10.0% - English Style Barleywine. No Hops at all but a very smooth malt caramel bomb. This is so tasty. Got this via a trade. Pretty outrageous! Another Bottle is going into the cellar immediately!

2) New England Brewing - 668 Chardonneighbor Of The Beast been waiting for this...all hail the Goat Lord! (668 beer aged in Chardonnay Barrels)
A) Pour reveals a nice golden hue, head quickly dissipates.
S) Probably one of the best I have had relative to the smell. Chardonnay really pops.
T) Not at all like the base beer, the phenols have muted and what you have is a nice wine forward taste. There is a lot of oak and vanilla with just a nice finish of pepper.
M) Very tart...I like!
O) I agree with the first reviewer...their best beer!

3) 21'st Ammendment - Lower da Boom - Barleywine...kind of weak.

4) Green Flash - Palate Wrecker 9.5% - Great beer! Absolutely no malts all hops. Great grapefruit zest taste!

5) Ommegang - Art of Darkness - 8.9% - Very good belgian strong dark ale. Better than seduction.

Gonna Start Early Beer Review!

Right to it.....

1) Firestone Walker - Double Barrel Ale - 5.0% - English Pale Ale - Malts up front a little piney oily hops. What you would expect for the style. Would prefer a tropic bomb. Glad to have tried.

2) Pretty Things - Lovely Saint Winifride - 7.0% - Euro Dark Lager - Pretty damn biteer. Love these guys as brewers, not a fan of the style. A bit too bitter.

3) Alesmith - X 5.0% - Extra pale Ale. Got this as part of a trade and believe I can get this in NY. One of the better pale ale's out there.

4) Bluepoint - No Apologies DIPA - 10% - Good - I think I got spoiled with the Ghandi Bot today though.

5) Stone Brewing - More Brown than Black IPA - 7% - Collaboration with the Alchemist and some other brewer. Best nose beautiful floral notes. Tasty too!

6) Alpine Beer Company - Alpine Ale - 5.0% - Nice Extra Pale Ale...slightly too malty at the end. Reason to move to California noted.

7) Goose Island - Bramble Rye Bourbon County Brand Stout - 12.7 % - Bottle number 1022 poured into a snifter glass. Pours a nice jet black, no head which is to be expected given the experiences with its cousins. A little red hue is noticed at the edges. The nose gives off some very nice rasberry smell. Taste is very interesting as you get that classic BCBS flavor but it is a bit different with the raspberry and blackberry flavors. The berries are up front and the finish is whiskey. This is very good hopefully this is not the last we see of this.

Weekend Beer Review! (St. Paddy's Day Version)

Uh Oh!

1) Dogfish Head - Noble Rot - 9% - A Saison with a bit of a grape forward taste (which they tell you about). This is nice. Extremely drinkable and crystal clear. Might get another one if it hangs around long enough.

2) Dogfish Head - 75 Minute IPA - A mix of 60 and 90. This was brewed with Maple syrup. This was formally known as Johnny Cask but they had to change the name due to IP reasons. I've seen different reviews on this. It is good but not as hop forward as advertized.

3) Maine Beer Company - MO - 6.0% - Very tasty pale ale. Thankfully it is available in NY.

4) Oskar Blues - Deviant Dales 8% - Not sure of the difference between tins and Gubna but very well done!

1,100!

Relic Brewing - Antiquity - Olde Ale - 7.2%

Connecticut's newest nano/microbrewery - much sucess wished!

Poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a nice coal black. Thin foamy head. Wasn't sure about the head almost a bit medicinal. Taste gave way to some coffee/toffee, plum and raisin. There is a bit of a bunt feeling to the flavors that is kind of nice. A bit of an astingent finish but over all a pleasing experience.

Look forward to more from this brewer.

1099

Mikkeller & 3 Floyds - Boogoop. Buckwheat Wheatwine Ale - 10.4% - Poured into Lost Abbey chalice! Murky browish orange. You get some nuttiness upfront from the buckwheat lemony, piney hoppiness to finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Very good beer...thank god 3 Floyds was involved with this because who knows what Mikkeler would have done!

Hey 1099 is a tax form....psych!

1098

1098) New England Brewing - Scrumtulescent Saison - 6% from a growler

Always a pleasure to try a new NebCo offering and these guys have been going in all sorts of directions lately.

Poured into a goblet. The appearance is a nice cloudy yellow with a fluffy white head that quickly dissipates. The smell is of some mild lemon and a bit of funky yeast. The taste starts off with some lemon zest followed by yeast and finishes with a very nice peppery afterglow! Nice mild carbonation.

Another hit from the NebCo guys!

Countdown to 1,100!

I'll probably screw this up.....

1096) Kuhnhenn - Dark Heathen - Triple Bock Lager - 12.5% - Caramel Toffee and Plum. Not sure what the difference between this and 4D is but I don't care.

1097) Kuhnhenn - Prometheus - 11% - Belgian Strong Dark Ale - Nice and Dangerously drinkable. A bit much on the clove but that is OK. Thank God they distribute to NYS!

Weekend Beer Review!

Going to Brooklyn tomorrow and have this nonsense going on Saturday. Oh boy!

1) Kuhnhenn 4th Dimentia Olde Ale - 2011 version at a whopping 13.5% poured into a brandy snifter. The appearance is murky brown, no head at all. The smell is of rasins butter rum and toffee. The taste combines the same with just a hint of oak. The mouthfeel is slick. Great beer...cellar worthy for sure!

2) Kuhnhenn 9 - Belgian Strong Ale 10.0% - Nice plum and cotton candy. Maybe a bit too sweet for the style. Their olde ale is where their expertise is at.
