Thank the Troops

Nuff said.

This why I hate Baby Boomers

Why this is even a question is beyond me. The sad thing is that Philly will go for Hillary, John or the Audacity of Hype, Barack HUSSEIN Obama. By the way the emphasis on the middle name is intentional.

Instapundit links to great commentary. Matt in the comments section opines excellently as always.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Apparently someone thought it would be a good idea to re-release this dreck. Please.

Best Christmas Card Ever!

The Trick & Pat. I know the photo is kind of crappy, but I wanted to put it on anyway. I have been fascinated with this man's presidency since college, when a professor in an American History class that I took had us read All the Presidents Men. I was fascinated with the Watergate era immediately. Anyway, Merry Christmas to the Nixon's!

New York Giants

Alright time to settle some issues. The Giants won today. This team is enough to drive you to drink. It's not a long drive either. (The AOL Country Station that I am listening to is playing a song called Tequila makes her clothes fall off. A fine sentiment.) Anyway, Eli Manning is the single DUMBEST football player I have ever seen. (Taylor Swift is on now). Eli, two interceptions, 5 fumbles 2 lost). What in God's name (Can I say God?) did Ernie Acorsi ever see in this guy. Thanks Ernie. Coughlin keeps his job today.

Need to get another Merlot!

Beer Tasting Drunk Blogging

Following up on my previous post and ripping off a term by Stephen Green of Vodka Pundit fame, I am now doing a beer tasting drunk blogging. The Spaten that I am tasting does not have an alcoholic content published on the bottle just some ugly Hun. It is imported from Munich. It is not bad, no usual Micro-brew aftertaste. (By the way Patriots are up 21-0....thank God the Giants won, more on that in a second). It gets 3 out of 5 Crazed Country Rebel Stars!

HOW 'BOUT NOW?!: What Happened?

Adam links to this troubling article about water consumption going up and beer consumption going down. Well I will have none of this. Last night I had several (uncountable) Michelob Ultra's (only because the Star ran out of Merlot) and I finished up with an Ommegang Abbey Ale. Today I will be trying a Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse which is put out by Spaten.

Is tomorrow if anyone is interested!

By the way, got my itinerary for the Rosebowl today. I leave the hotel for the Hospitality tent at 9:30am for a 2:00pm PST game. This could be bad.

Uconn Bowl Bound Update

Uconn has sold 12,000 of its 12,500 allotment of tickets for the Car Care Bowl.

96%, Let's try to get to 100%! The link will tell you how to by tickets and donate them to local military personnel to go if so inclined.

Oh that lousy economy.

GDP grows 4.9%
In Q3 07.

The MSM would be singing the praises of whatever Clinton was in the Whitehouse if the news came out under one of their administrations.

Me, I look for this lagging indicator to determine how the economy is going. If my neighbors have their houses lit up to the stars around Christmas the economy is chugging along fine. If not, the economy sucks. The North End is lit up bright this year. Heck there is some idiot who lives across the street from the Golden Star who turns on his Christmas lights in the middle of August!

Democrats progressing on extracating the US from Iraq.

I just had to put this in verbatim.

Via Instapundit.

AN IRAQ TURNAROUND: "An astonishing turnaround occurred in the Senate on Tuesday: 70 senators voted to fund the Iraq war with a fresh $70 billion and no strings attached. Think about this a moment. Last winter, after Democrats captured the Senate and House, it seemed likely they'd succeed in limiting or ending the Iraq war, probably by setting a firm timetable for withdrawal of American troops. After all, both President Bush and the war itself were highly unpopular. The Democratic triumph in the election made that clear, even to those who doubted opinion polls. And Democrats made the anti-Iraq crusade their top priority in the new Congress. Now, the 70-vote approval of the war by the Senate represents the breathtaking dimension of their failure."

Bowl Bound update. Should see me off to the Rose Bowl with one hell of a hangover!

The Mitchell Report

Is here in its entirety. So they got Clemens & Pettite. Clemens and Pettite respond here (so far). I'm no union guy but I do think the players union should have had the chance to at least look at this report beforehand to adequately comment.

Prediction, based on the people named (who have been rumored before) and no real blockbuster revelation, this will have a shelf life for as long as it takes for the New England Patriots to lose.

Mitchell Report Marketing

From Steiner Sports, $50 gift card if you bought something signed by a player yesterday 12/12 7pm to midnight, who shows up on the Mitchell Report today 12/13. I love the cynacism!

Mitchell Report

Comes out today. I am interested in seeing how many core Yankees from the championship years are named. Will update later on tonight with thoughts (really rants).

Apparently Mitchell is going to fault both MLB & the Players Union. Huh...Duh! It took him 20 months and I don't know how many millions of dollars to come up with that? I could have come up with that in a day and would have done it for a pair of lifetime season tickets to the Yankees.

Bush 37% Congress 22%

While these are not great approval numbers Bush still beats Congress per Gallup (Hat tip to Drudge). Also (Via Instapundit) Jules Crittendon makes a very fair and persuasive case for Bush on the economy and foreign policy. Not that I expect that most of the electorate would understand it. The problem with this administration is that they have the PR skills of a rock.

Can't wait to see if either Barack, Hillary or John take the White House and summarily wreck the American economy by federalizing health care and the real estate industry.

National Intelligence Estimate

Now I don't know if these are all from the same sources and I may be grouping multiple things (and looking at this simplistically) as intelligence but here goes:

2003 - Bush believes intelligence that Iraq had WMD's - he is derided for listening to intelligence.

2007 - Bush doesn't believe intelligence that Iran is pursuing Nuclear weapons - he is derided for not listening to intelligence.

Jimmy to Bush - Don't bother, it is not worth the aggravation anymore.

Greenhouse Update

Directly from Instapundit. Apparently 10,000 people have travelled to Bali to discuss Global Warming. Jeez it's not like they couldn't utilize some sort of Oh, technology and do a webcast and upload it to You Tube. By the way is there any reason that these things always take place in some resort for the rich & famous?

I mean my little burg of Bridgeport, CT could use the economic stimulus. Alas it is about 30 degrees here and overcast. Just a thought.

Happy Repeal Day!

Via Instapundit. Apparently today was the day prohibition was repealed. Reminds me from a line from the John Wayne movie The Quiet Man. John Wayne mentions America & Barry Fitzgerald just shivers and in his brogue says "America....Prohibition" in disgust.

Have a happy!

Monday, December 3, 2007

Well that's Convenient

Via Instapundit

"A new assessment by American intelligence agencies concludes that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that the program remains on hold, contradicting an assessment two years ago that Tehran was working inexorably toward building a bomb."

But what could have happened in 2003 that might have persuaded the Iranians to stop work on a weapon of mass destruction?

Adam's Prayer

From Tim's friend Jay who is an annual Bluefish August Jimmy Drunkfest regular. I just came up with the title.

The Beer's Prayer

Our lager,Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
Thy will be drunk,(I will be drunk),
At home as in the tavern.
Give us this day our foamy head,
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the beer,
The bitter and The lager.
Forever and ever,

Barmen

Beer Recommendation

Those of you who know me know that I am pretty generic in my beer tastes. Give me a Schaeffer or PBR and I am pretty happy. The other day returning from Norm's house I stopped at this liquor store on Rte 110. I needed to get a bottle of Merlot & I saw this beer called Sara, it is imported from Belgium and certified organic by the fruitcakes from California. It looked very dark when I poured it, but I was very surprised by the light clean taste. It says it is a buckwheat ale, (6%). There was a website on the label that looks interesting.

Uconn Hotties!

Two reasons why I knew I was at Uconn

The Wilbur Cross Library.......& obvious

Mirror Lake

One time in either my Junior or Senior Year I disappeared from a party in the dorm for several hours. I came back, covered in dirt and leaves, etc. Someone asked me where I was & I said I was talking to the ducks. This is where. Most of the early 80's are a blur.

Watch out where the Huskies go....

I wasn't drunk here as this didn't exist in the early 80's

Back in the good old Yankee Conference, memories of Matt Latham, Larry Corn, John Dorsey, Ken Sweitzer, Brian McGillicuddy, etc.

I think I was drunk once or twice here. Actually I was probably drunk once or twice in most places here!

Your tax dollars at work.

The Connecticut Post reports that state employees are not tracking their vacation time, sick time etc. Who knows how much this cost taxpayers in fraudulent compensation. This is such a basic component of internal control. Our elected representatives who were all very indignant over the Enron & World-Com scandals should look at their own house.

Diversity at U of Delaware

Apparently there was some kind of Diversity Indoctrination going on over at Dartmouth that is being widely scoffed at in some Blogs. The Corner provides some of the questions. A drink comes to the local individual who provides the best "non-vulgar/non-getting me to jail" response.

Good luck.

Veterans day is November 11th. That servicemen and servicewomen died to pave the way for a generation to come up with this dreck is unconscionable

Paul W. Tibbets, 1915-2007

Matt links to this story on the passing of General Tibbets. Matt & I went up to see the General speak several years ago and purchased pictures and books that the General signed. We knew not to ask him to sign a baseball. I'll leave that story to Matt.

The NY Post in its editorial page today states the following:

"The six decades since have brought about much moralistic hand wringing and academic revisionism all designed to rewrite history and declare America guilty of a horrendous war crime"

Tibbets response in a 1995 PBS Documentary (also from the NY Post):

"I wanted to do everything I could to subdue Japan. I wanted to kill the bastards. It would have been morally wrong if we'd had that weapon and not used it and let a million people die"

"I didn't bomb Pearl Harbor - I didn't start the war. But I was going to finish it."

Rest in Peace.

Billy

Heard the bad news from both Adam & Matt. Hopefully Billy is somewhere trying to land a Great White. Godspeed.

Billy was not a big sports fan as I am although I always remember him willing to listen to me babble on about sports. He used to tell stories about his Uncle (who sounded like he was made but who cares) taking him to see the Mets at Shea. His Uncle would have a procedure where he would pick up pastry, go to OTB while bringing Billy along in the process. Sounds like a good day to me. I remember the happiness in Billy's voice when he recalled this. I will probably add on to this, but I am drunk now and will leave until tomorrow.

Bigfoot

Well I certainly don't want to talk baseball today (F*** A-Rod). The Giants & Dolphins set back the cause of US football in Europe several decades with one of the worst football games ever played yesterday. That all said, AOL provides this important news story about one of my all time favorite creatures.

How would you like to be a sports fan in Boston.

1) Red Sox on verge of winning the World Series.
2) Boston College # 2 in the BCS.
3) UMass # 4 in 1-AA rankings.
4) New England Patriots by far the best team in Pro Football.
5) The new look Celtics getting ready to challenge in the NBA Eastern Conference.

Amazing (and annoying)

We need more of this from the Democrats

Via Instapundit and linked directly. You know I do honestly believe that people of different opinions can honestly and CIVILLY disagree, but there is so much venom from the left that is absolutely insane. Whether you agree or disagree with Bush that is fine. You may think the "War on Terror" is a farce, that is fine. You can think that Islam is the religion of peace, that is fine. To think that any US President would sit idly by and be complicit to 747's with US citizens aboard fly into sky scrapers is sick! Good for Bill Clinton and , while I defend their right to make themselves look stupid, SHAME on them.

Jack Reacher

Instapundit links to Samizdata relative to a recommendation of a book series by the Author Lee Child. This is the Jack Reacher series and is about the adventures of a former Military Police officer. Jack is a loner who always seems to end up helping someone is distress. The bad guys usually die gruesomely in these books by whatever weapon Jack happens to have on hand. I can second the recommendation highly!

At least he isn't a Uconn Grad!

Via Drudge. Miami Dolphins Linebacker Channing Crowder learns he doesn't need a translator in London for the game between the Giants & Dolphins on 10/28. To be fair, the article does state that the reporters didn't know if he was joking.

I think it's Bush's fault!

Headline of the Day!

Via Powerline. I would bet that father involvement would be unprecedented. Remember it is all for the children.

But Harry Reid said it was Global Warming!

Apparently arson is being investigated as the cause of the Southern California fires. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid the other day indicated that Global Warming was probably the cause. Can we once have a politician wait until they get the facts before they make some proclamation on a subject that they probably don't understand anyway.

Since Global Warming is W's fault, I am waiting for the Dem's to say that George secretly flew out to California and committed arson himself!

Torre 2

Matt puts in the comment section on my previous post that he would like to see some more opinion on this subject. Now that I am sufficiently liquored up I figure I will put my two cents in. Spelling credit will hopefully be optional. As an aside before I ramble, Bud Selig must be thrilled as the Yankees have eclipsed the post season.

Torre should have been given a 2 year extension at his current salary. Here are the reasons why:

General
1) Randy Levine (President COO Whatever) states that the Yanks wanted to move toward an incentive based (field managerial) compensation package. That is fine. Will that standard apply to the individuals who signed (amongst some notables) Kei Igawa, Jaret Wright & Carl Pavano? That is about $100 million right there and we are quibbling on cutting Torre's salary by $2.0 million? I know we all wish we could have our salaries cut by $2.0 million but it needs to be put in contect for this industry.

Specific to Torre
1) Who is qualified (baseball & media wise) to replace him!

2) Who other than Torre could have held this ship together in May/June when all Yankee fans (including myself) were panicking and all the new (since 2004) Red Sox fans were celebrating the Yankees demise? Donnie Baseball? I think not!

3) I previously posted that the coaching combination Miller Huggins, Joe McCarthy & Casey Stengel could not have managed past the 19.60 era performance of Chien Ming Wang. I still stand by that.

4) In the past, free agents, most notably Greg Maddux, did not want to come to the Bronx because they thought it was a circus. Torre changed that perception to where players wanted to come to the Yankees. Torre gets 100% credit there.

5) Torre did a great job incorporating the youngsters into the lineup.

6) 12 straight years in the playoffs ain't easy.

Joe Torre

Sticks it to the Yankees. The Yankees right now are the story in baseball. They have absolutely co-opted the playoffs. Selig must be furious. Sports talk in this area is going to be insane!

UPDATE!!! A POLL ON THIS SUBJECT IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BLOG. VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE SCAPE GOAT!

Apparently as violence lessens in Iraq cemetery workers are feeling the pinch (via Instapundit) So who is to blame. Since this is almost Halloween, let's give our liberal friends a chance to pick their favorite bogey man:

B) Dick Cheney
C) Karl Rove

Air America Host Hurt

Interesting NRO link relative to a host of liberal radio network Air America being injured in a fall near her Manhattan apartment. Best wishes to Randi Rhodes for a speedy and complete recovery. What is really telling is the reaction of some fellow liberals immediately determining that it was some right wing nut job attacking her. What is it with these people and all these conspiracies. I for one think it is pretty childish.

Avast ye scurvy swabs!

Or something like that. AOL reports pirate attacks on the rise. The nations concerned should send out some naval vessels (or contract some) with machine guns and make the pirate boats into swiss cheese. You would then probably see a decline.

Main Stream Media Focus

Ever since the testimony of General David Petraeus in September 07, people feel that there is a call for some guarded optimism in Iraq. Instapundit provides some information from Michael Yon which appears to be good news. Who knows if this will work or not but a functioning Democracy with respect to the rule of law and good sense would be a good thing.

That said, the MSM is dredging up an oldie but a goodie relative to the allegeded desecration of the Quaran. I think desecration of the Quaran is the only time the MSM is sensitive to someone's religious beliefs. I'm telling you this is definitely a multi front war. Reagan was able to keep the press in check due to his popularity in the 80's as he not only had to confront the Soviets, but all kinds of resistance from the press. Don't know if we have someone with that clout now.

Gotta Love NASCAR!

Even though it is sooooo boring to watch. Maybe the Blue Dog Democrats will come home! Via AOL. This clown, Bennie Thompson. doesn't look all that healthy himself.

The Boss...

No not Steinbrenner, the over rated hack from New Jersey. There is nothing worse than listening to the two New York sports talk radio stations and hearing the talkies gush over every song on the new album and how many times these people expect to see him on the current tour. The only saving grace is that it gets the Yankees off the talk cycle. One caller called up Chris "Mad Dog" Russo (who is a big Springsteen fan) and said that 100 years from now, there will be three pages on Springsteen & 16 Chapters on McCartney. Well stated and agreed.

The Stupid Party.

This is a great article from the Weekly Standard.

Sanchez on the media

Matt links links to Instapundit on the media and their "slightly biased" coverage of retired General Sanchez's statements. What is sad is how the neo-foreign policy realists have made common cause with the left in the guise of supporting the troops and have put those people in power. Add in the media and it is hard to fight a three front war.

2007 Yankees

RIP. Miller Huggins, Joe McCarthy & Casey Stengel could not have won if their "Ace" had an ERA over 19 in two games. So for all the long time (since 2004) citizens of "Red Sox Nation", I have 2 words...."Go Tribe!" May the plague of Gnats from Lake Erie can visit Fenway and infest Manny & Big Papi.

By the way, firing Torre would be a mistake. I can't think of anyone other than Girardi who I would want to come in. Definitely don't want to see that jinx Mattingly as the next manager. If A-Rod does opt out of his contract, I might let him go (as the Yankees will loose the Texas Rangers subsidy). The goal on out should be to look at the model of the late 1990's and get back to that. Let A-Rod go to San Francisco as the Giants would be looking for an attraction to replace Barry Bonds.

A disgruntled Yankee Fan.

Republican Candidates Debate

Investors Business Daily has a great editorial today whereby it provides advice to the Republican Presidential hopefuls on how to manage the "moderator" Chris Matthews. The Editorial is scathing, particularly as follows:

"If he asks about the war on terror, they should reply: 'Chris, do you agree that the war on terror and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan might not have been necessary, and that 9/11 might never have occurred, had your boss not ushered in the world's first Islamofascist dictatorship and a state sponsor of terror by undercutting our ally, the Shah of Iran?'
As for what Bush intends to do about Iran, we suggest: 'Chris, do you blame the existence of a regime that daily provides the weapons to kill American troops in Iraq and threatens nuclear holocaust on the naive policies of the Carter administration you served?'

Anyone who doesn't think we are paying for the policies of the man from Plains 30+ years ago is sadly mistaken.
