1) Puck Fair - I guess this is what a traditional Irish Pub is supposed to be like. Since it is still half freezing I decided on a good stout to start the evening. I had a Belhaven Scottish Stout which was very good but took forever to pour. Next up was
2) The Essex Street Ale house - Don't bother, the reviews on beer advocate must be from some other place. Lastly,
3) Spitzers Corner - This place has the Gator written all over it. Very good bar, looks like some serious pub grub where patrons can sit down at long tables. I had a Victory Golden Monkey which was a very tasty belgian inspired ale. I don't believe I have bought a six pack of that yet but I think I will remedy that shortly.
Also stopped at the Whole Foods Market on the way home and picked up a very special beer which will be part of a pictorial beer review for the Superbowl. Also went to Mountainview today and picked up one of those Chimay gift sets so now I have a proper Trappist glass to use. The idea is to get myself into oblivion before halftime so I miss the Boss. Bruce might be the only guy to have inspired more man-crushes than Barry O!

Vodkapundit
entitles this post the Tom Clancy Drool Fest. I think an APB needs to be put out for MC if he sees it. And this via Instapundit should really put him over the edge.

Friday Pub Crawl
Went and visited some interesting establishments in the East Village on Friday, Obamania was on display in the bluest of blue states, but why let that ruin good beer. Stopped off at the Whole Foods Market on E. Houston between Bowery & Chrystie to visit their beer room. I picked a couple of things up that I will be reviewing and I will start off with a Goose Island Bourbon County Stout (13% ABV). Very heavy (obviously). Very good. Probably shouldn't have chugged it.
1) d.b.a First Ave between 2nd & 3rd
I resisted the temptation of having an Obamagang on tap! That said I had an Imperial pint of Sixpoint Brownstone (Cask) which was very good, from there I went to.......
2) Jimmy's No. 43! on East 7th..didn't really appreciate where I was at the time, but more on that later. Had another Sixpoint offering, Bengali Tiger IPA (7.5% ABV). Very good, going to have to do a bit more homework on Sixpoint. Obviously I liked the name of the joint!
3) Upstairs from Jimmy's was Standings Bar. this was a great place as it was a sports bar with great beer. Had an Elysian Immortal IPA and went to....
4) Burp Castle right next door. A Belgian Specialty bar, You would need a truck to get Adam out of there. Had a Kasteel Tripel which was great.
and as I hit all these places from the south and walked west I saw McSorley's. All the places I was in were nominally populated. McSorley's was packed. People get a grip there is better beer then tourist traps!

Wednesday Bar Review!
This is for all of those not taken over by the orgasmic idolatry of Barack Obama. What is orgasmic idolatry? The inability to coherently explain what you want to change from to what you want to change to.
Continuing along the recommendations of the Gotham-Imbiber, I went to Stantons Public House. I had a really good Southern Tier Old Man Winter on tap. Stantons Public House is located right off of E. Houston, walk south on the Bowery and bang a left and you are right there. On the block of E. Houston between Bowery & Chrystie streets is a Whole Foods Market that had one of the best selections of beers that I have seen. Rivals most of what I have seen in CT. Gotham-Imbiber also had that down on the location but I never put 2 and 2 together. Bought a Delirium Nocturnum & a Brooklyn Chocolate Stout for the train ride home. A bit better than the usual Metro North Fare.

MLK Beer Review Day
Since it is a really crappy day (that I have off) I thought I would do a little drinking to pass the time until the annointment tomorrow.
1) Saranac Imperial Stout 9.0 ABV very good and malty. Not quite as sweet as a Brooklyn Chocolate Stout but enjoyable nonetheless.
2) Praying Mantis Porter - Brewed by Shipyard Brewing Company in Portland Maine on behalf of the defunct(I guess)Hartford Brewery Limited, this is a session beer very light, smooth and tasty.

Beer Bars
Went to the Uconn/Syracuse women's basketball game yesterday. On the way to the Civic Center (or whatever the hell they call that place now) I stopped at Hartford's City Steam Brewery where I had a delicious Black Silk Stout and a Carpenters Ale (IPA). I left the game at half time as I wanted to hit Amity Wine and Spirits on they way home. As it was approximately 4:00 pm when I got to Westville I ambled over to Delaney's Tap Room for my inaugural visit and had a Delirium Noel on tap. Some more beer info coming later.

Some NYC Photos
It is cold along the Hudson River! The picture at the bottom is the view from the office building I am working at. The picture on top is from the Chelsea Brewing company where I enjoyed a Black Hole Stout (7.9%) and a Frosty's Winter Wheat (7.7%). The Frosty's Winter Wheat was outstanding!

Protesters are idiots
In Grand Central Terminal today there were some individuals protesting the Israeli/US "occupation" of Palestine. I am not sure when GCT became the front lines of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict but I do note that the protesters made sure they were protesting in a warm place like GCT, hey why would they want to risk 20 degree temperatures outside of the Israeli embassy? Certainly protesting and comfort are not mutually exclusive. Besides, the schmuck trying to weave through the crowd to catch the 6:04 to suburbia is really the person we want to target!
Maybe I will protest Metro North service at the Russian embassy tomorrow!

Vodkapundit
Links to the politics of drinking. I'll repeat his "Heh!"...and raise him a good beer bar!
Mid Week Bar Stop
The Half Pint ony my way back to GCT stopped and had a cask conditioned Weyerbacher Simcoe Double IPA. Very tasty. There are way too many good beer bars within walking distance of this client. Am planning on going to the Chelsea Brewery on Friday. Should be fun walking up the Hudson River when it is about 5 degrees.

Why I hate this country
I bought a frozen pizza today for the hell of it. The instructions on the box said to cook the pizza before eating it. What's next?

Weekend Beer Review (Kind of)
As i am recently commuting to the NYC for work I figured I would explore some places recommended by the Gotham Imbiber. That I did and some thoughts are coming up next, but then I fell across this:
1) Brooklyn Black Op's - Hopefully this is in celebration of the return of "24" but I stumbled into this at Super Discount Wine & Spirits. This is like drinking beer & Scotch in the same drink. Very potent. The label says it is limited to 1,000 cases and Jason (the owner of SDW&S) indicated that he was only allocated a six pack.
I did hit a couple of bars on the way back to GCT. First up was the Tribeca Tavern where I had a Troegs Mad Elf Ale. Right next door was Another Room. Another Room was kind of a goth beer bar. Good selection and I had a Young's Chocolate Stout on tap which was a typical flavorless British offering. Finally I made it to the Peculier Pub. I had a delicious Delirium Tremens on tap. I need to go back to this place to sit there and drink properly.

20 Most Annoying Liberals of 2008
Here, via Vodkapundit. By the way referring to (No. 8) Chris Matthews as "Tweety" is hilarious.
