I've started aging.....actually I continue aging but I have bought some beer for cellaring purposes. So far have a Brooklyn Black Op's, a couple of 09 Bigfoots, an 08 Goose Island Bourbon County Stout and a Hair of the Dog - Adam. The goal is to keep these to the Holidays, which very easily could turn be Memorial Day.
As an aside I am pissed of at myself for missing the Swanny lighted beerfest this weekend. Had tickets to the Yankees which is a tactical error in and of itself. How to deal with a tactical error? Compound it! Will most certainly leave the Yankees early to go to d.b.a and other fun areas!

Weekend Beer Review!
OK it's official after months of deliberation and millions of liver cells killed, d.b.a is my favorite bar in Manhattan with the Tiger being a close second. Probably the two things that tipped in d.b.a's favor is their scotch selection as well as the East Village is my favorite area of the city. Have actually become fascinated with Zum Schneider which is near by. A good and boisterous Bavarian Bierhaus.
1) Young's Old Nick - Barley Wine - This was from 2007. This is from 2007 and has aged very well. Smooth, kind of like a dark rum for want of a better comparison.
2) Goose Island - Oatmeal Stout - 5.1% ABV - A British Style stout. For those clamoring over Guinness's 250th anniversary stout get some of this. Won't have to wait another 250 years!
3) Otter Creek - Russian Imperial Stout - 10.5% ABV This is a great stout. Shock though that something called Russian Imperial would come out of the peoples Republic of Vermont.

Weekend Beer Review continued
MC's comments about absinthe (and I paraphrase) all things in moderation including moderation are scary indeed! That could be a sick trip to the city. Might need Swanny to chaperone! Anyway
2) Continuing from Friday - Abbaye de Saint Bon - Chien Grand Cru - Too fruity once again. 11.5% abv. This will hurt tomorrow but I think a good one is coming up!
3) And since I stacked the deck - Malheur 12 Dark Ale - 12% ABV Dark Ale - Bottle Conditioned - I may commit heresey here, but this would give Rochefort 10 a run for its money. Great beer.
4) St. Benardus Pater 6 -I bought this as a 4 pack with a couple of other offerings as I wanted to get the chalice that was included. Happy to drink this.

Beerus Interuptus!
Woke up yesterday and decided I wanted to go roam around the East Village. Kind of a sperm of the moment thing as Archie Bunker might say. Roaming was of course a natural thing to want to do when the weather forecast called for rain all day but the weather turned out very good. Of course with all that wandering a thirst was going to develop. A couple of places of note were visited. A Paddy something or other on 2nd around 27 or 28th. It bills itself as the worlds only all Guinness draft bar. Don't know if they are the worlds only but all they did have on draft was Guinness. Had the 250 Anniversary offering on tap which was very good, although I still maintain that Americans make better stouts.
The Waterfront Alehouse was a place that I had wanted to go for a while. Unfortunately it is not in my logical walking pattern during the week so a special trip needed to be made. Good place although I wish the bartender spent more time paying attention to the glasses of his patrons rather than washing the one's behind the bar. Had a paradoxically named Imperial Mild on Cask from the Chelsea brewing company. This was 11.5% and superb! Probably can't make that one a habit.
I noticed on the board behind the bar that the Waterfront offers absinthe cocktails. The absinthe is purportedly real but just looked way to strong for me. I texted MC that absinthe was available. We traded some messages the last from MC saying we should try the stuff. Not sure if that is one of his better ideas. Actually I am reasonably confident that it isn't!
Well hopefully I will get to the regular beer review soon.

1) Avery Brewing - Brabant Barrel Aged Wild Ale - 8.65% Everyone was raving about this on Beer Advocate. Too Fruity for me and I don't mean Barney Frank. Don't go out of your way for this. This is enough to drive me back to Schaefer.
